Colour and jazz

The modern desktops seem to have too much colour on them. Ditto for webpages. Just because someone invented a way to put colour on a computer monitor, doesn't mean the colour has to be used. Good use of gray shades can create a soothing theme which is not in your face and might even help save battery.

Howerver, nowadays there is a lot of rich media that is displayed on computers like video, photos, animations. For these colour is essential. I'm not saying colour should be done away with. I'm just saying that it the colours used should be given a thought more seriously.

Currently, I'm using a aqua graphite colour theme on KDE with black and white icons. Its much better, and much more pleasing. But then, beauty lies in the mind of the beholder ...

agree on the aesthetics and pleasing part of grayscale, but didn't quite get the battery saving thing... aren't LCD displays supposed to be taking same amount of power irrespective of what they display?
