A few observations:
1. The amount of time I have saved while programming, due to the fact that I have chosen a Unix (like) platform, is huge. Simple things like bash, consistent hierarchical filesystems, network transparency is most operations are a great help.
2. No matter what any Tom, Dick or Eric says, perl is awesome. Its one of the best programming languages out there. And all this talk of it not being 'object oriented' is plain bullshit. It has enough features to do good object oriented programming, if you know what object oriented programming is. Perl is one of those languages that just get your work done quickly. Period.
3. The OSX dock is a much better interface than the taskbar.
