My goal scoring streak in the inter IT tournament has put me in a
predicamennt. Basically because it hass ended. The balls that once
sailed in are now hitting the post, the passes that came right to my
feet are going a yard askew and the smoothly rolling ball that I once
dispatched accurately now hits a bad spot on the ground just when I'm
about to hit it. Not to mention that many balls that I ferociously hit
head straight for the keeper.
I've been wondering what has changed. The ground has changed. I must say
that the ground on which the tournament was played was a much better
one. The people with whom I play have changed. The position in which I
play has changed. In the tournaments I played attacking centre midfield,
by necessity. Now, I've gone back to the right wing. The ironic part is,
myy team (whichever one it is) does much better with me on the wings. I
guess the structure of the teams that I play for and against is very
different to the one we had adopted during the tournament.
The quality of strikers now is much better. Maybe thats why I'm more
suited to a role of a provider than that of a scorer nowadays. With
people like Bhanda in the forward line, my ability to give accurate long
passes gains greater importance. And I must say, that skill is a good as
ever.
Whatever my role maybe, a provider or a scorer, I'm enjoying as much as
ever before. Thats what really matters.
An 'eye opener'
Let's say that you are teaching a class. Let's say that you are teaching Unix.
You have drawn a neat sketch of the inode-wise layout of the disk and you are
explaining the concept of the hierarchical filesystem and directories and
inodes and hard and soft links with the help of your neat diagram. Suddenly
you discover that one of the students is not getting the whole picture ...
because he can't see ... *because he is blind*.
At that moment I didn't really feel the impact because I was too engrossed in
the subject, too engrossed in teaching. But the whole thing really hit me
hard on the bus ride home. A thousand questions were raised, not many
answered.
First, about teaching - in such a situation, do you teach for the lowest
denominator or the higher one. Doing anything is going to unfair to the other
category. But in this case, the whole problem is magnified to a huge extent.
